The paintings of Jean-Christophe Massinon are packed with stories, constructed around a scenario in which we can all get a part. Such as his new series of paintings gathered under the title Heroes, “ordinary heroes who overcome events and tragedies in quite a courageous and anonymous way after all”, that one can see at STEPHANEACKERMANN
Drawing his imagery from everyday life, Massinon depicts familiar situations, devoid of superfluous details; he presents individuals, natural elements and other ordinary objects. Appears, here, a group of girls in transit, there, a “skaterboy” dozing, or a young man being knelt in a flowerbed. Of a conspicuous simplicity, Massinon takes an arrested look at the world that he observes as a sensible beholder; he depicts nature, human frailty, unviolated freedom, utopian views and dreams that contrive a promising future. He paints us in our uncertainty and universality.
These distinct shapes, these individuals with smooth faces and bodies, painted with clear, but subdued flat tints evoke, in this new series, this emotion that overwhelms us occasionally and which gets intensified through doubt. Beneath the apparent lightness of the lines and spaces, the evidence of everyday life is emerging.
His statements are clear and yet Massinon arouses in an astonishing way curiosity and shows a “sensitive world, full of humaneness, generating contemplation, an indication that enables everyone to contribute to”.

Les peintures de Jean-Christophe Massinon regorgent d’histoires, agencées selon un scénario dans lequel nous pouvons tous décrocher un rôle. Telle la nouvelle série de peintures réunies sous le titre Heroes, « héros de tous les jours qui surmontent les événements et les tragédies de la vie de façon assez courageuse et anonyme finalement », que l’on peut découvrir chez STEPHANEACKERMANN .
Puisant son imagerie dans la vie quotidienne, Massinon nous donne à voir des situations familières, dénuées de détails superflus; il met en scène des personnages, des éléments naturels et autres objets du quotidien. Surgit, ici, un groupe de filles en transit, là, un «skaterboy» assoupi, ou encore un jeune homme agenouillé dans un parterre de fleurs. D’une simplicité flagrante, Massinon jette un regard suspendu sur le monde qu’il observe en guetteur avisé; il représente la nature, la fragilité humaine, la liberté intacte, les utopies et les rêves qui tracent de prometteuses perspectives. Il nous peint, dans notre indétermination et notre universalité.
Ces silhouettes claires, ces personnages aux visages et aux corps lisses, peints avec des aplats de couleurs franches, mais sourdes évoquent, dans cette nouvelle série, cette émotion qui nous habite parfois et que le doute amplifie. Sous l’apparente légèreté des lignes et des espaces laissés comme valeur, l’évidence d’un quotidien se dessine.
